Zealous for What?

  • by

Pastor Shaq Hager continues our study of the book of Acts by talking through the story of Saul’s conversion along the Damascus Road (Acts 9:1-10 NIV). Just one chapter earlier the author of Acts introduces Saul into the story of the early church, reporting that he “approved” of Stephen’s killing. Saul is a zealot who believes that by identifying and persecuting Christians, even when it means murdering them, he’s defending Judaism and protecting people from being lead astray. Jesus confronts Saul and redirects his zealotry to proclaiming the Gospel. It’s a passage that invites us to look inward and ask, “What are we zealous about that we were never supposed to be?”
